Contrary to the detractors assertions, it seems that being a freelance Solo Video Journalist isn’t an issue - at least for the Obama campaign people.
I’ve assigned myself to cover a scheduled rally Senator Obama is having here in Eugene, Oregon today.
Being held at the University of Oregon later today, I decided to take a chance and contact the Campaign office here in Eugene - sure enough, they sent me the link to RSVP for media and so I’m on my way to covering the event.
The UpTake.org, a citizen journalism organization is interested in what I’m going to be shooting so looks like all is a go.
Am I getting paid for this? That’s not the issue for doing this. I look at this as a part of a pseudo-internship. Hands on training. Trial by fire - whatever you might want to call it. Since print publications have shown no interest in the solo vj paradigm, I’m making something out of this for myself.
Once I get the content edited down to a story, I’ll post it online.
