The Solo VJ detractors are at it once again with their adolescent rantings over on Michael Rosenblum’s blog.

So I’m going to expound a little on what I see.  One day a good friend of mine said something to me I’ll never forget.  The word “FEAR” was an acronym for how the vast majority of people live - and I see this coming from those who are against the Solo Video journalism movement.

The detractors of the Solo VJ paradigm use this along with another acronym - FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt), to try and dispell the Solo VJ movement.

I find it interesting as someone who observes human  behavior that these people whom I sometimes refer to as the “b-roll crew” will take great effort to use slanderous statements about others who may not be as experienced as THEY claim to be, yet will pontificate about their education and experience and that their way is the ONLY way to become a “professional videographer” because they are all know, all seeing - no  matter if it’s in news, features, documentary, etc.

My intuitive sense on these people is that they see the writing on the walls and are unwilling to adapt to the coming changes beginning to take place. They have done things a certain way for so long that to change scares them into a state of denial.   And in their denial, they lash out at others who are making the choice to adapt and change with the profession.  These b-roll crew shooters could choose to adapt and make the transition much easier from a skills point of view, and yet are so entrenched in their ideology of video that to think outside of that view would be death to them internally.

To all the b-roll crew - others like myself have been nothing more than civil in our tone with you, yet you continue to slander people like myself just because we believe differently than you do.  I personally do not care what you bring to the table - your behavior and treatment of those who ascribe to the Solo VJ movement has refuted your claims as professional shooters in my eyes.

Reality is - you’ve made your beds - now lie in them and accept the outcome of your unwillingness to adapt to the coming storm that is the Solo Video Journalist movement.
