The Future Of TV: The Solo VJ strikes again

My cyber colleague, David Dunkley Gyimah, publisher of Viewmagazine.tv, has posted an excellent analysis of the future of TV and how the Solo VJ paradigm will revolutionize content creation and broadcast.

Stating that there are some prominent issues facing media executives in their respective TV, publishing or creative markets, David looks at developing ideas and solutions for the next generation of TV and online content creators.

SONY A1U

The interesting part of this article is David’s interview of  Claudio von Planta, both in written form and flash video.  Claudio’s tools for producing the top notch content he has created is within any Solo VJ’s budget.  Using a SONY A1U and a laptop, he has produced projects that have gone to broadcast for CBC and CNN.

This smacks at the very cornerstone of the ENG mantra of needing more than one person to produce high quality content.   It removes the mystery, the aura of shoulder mount cameras and production crews for creating original content for anything from the web to broadcast television.

As David states in this article, “Video journalism’s selling point is its intimacy.  Robustness and swifter turn around in programme and news production are also central strengths.

Plus playing into the sensibilities of any programme manager it’s dirt cheap in comparison to crews, though VJ personnel come with a premium, sometimes levelling out any perceived savings.”

We, as trailblazers, will be ridiculed for going down this new path - but for those who are stuck in the old way of doing things, they are headed towards extinction, for that is their fate for not choosing to adapt.

You can come with us or stay behind - we are headed down this path no matter what.
