Seems as though the detractors of the Solo VJ paradigm are using more hostile displays by personally attacking those who don’t see things their way.
Although I understand their position, I don’t agree with it. Here’s why…
Just as anything else in life, change happens. And even in a profession that has appeared to be untouchable, the rules are changing. What once use to be the exclusive club of TV station ENG’s is now becoming diverse. Shooters like myself have the tools and foundational skills necessary to produce compelling content at a level that is on par with those who have claimed exclusive membership in the realm of TV news gathering.
There is a place for multi-person TV crews for more complex projects. The reality is professional content is being produced by Solo VJ’s at a rate that exceeds that of the detractors. It’s unfortunate that the long time shooters feel it necessary to come out and make hostile statements about those like myself that borders on slander. It’s a scarcity mentality rearing its ugly head and instead of seeing the glass as half full, the detractors choose to see it as half empty.
Maybe it’s time for those who feel that they have exclusivity to step up and show why they feel they have a right to make such claims by showcasing their work to those like myself to support their claims.
I’m always willing to learn - as long as it is done in a respectful fashion.
So far, the detractors have been anything but…
